PERSONAL FENCER’S EQUIPMENT
The brain of the System is a wireless sensor.
The fixing of the applied touch (hit) by the System is made by the sensor in two parallel independent ways: the electrical signal goes to the LED boards in the athlete’s mask and they light up in the appropriate color (red, green or white), and the radio signal goes to the radio receiver, which also fixes this touch (hit) in the same corresponding color, and then (if necessary) on the central apparatus (scoreboard, repeater lamps, etc.).
Each sensor has a built-in battery (5V), which allows it to work (when initially fully charged) in an intensive training mode for about 10-11 hours. That is, without recharging the battery, the athlete can spend five to six full-fledged trainings.
During the bout, the sensor is mounted on the fencer’s belt.
Separate wires are connected to each sensor through the built-in connectors:
– a radio transmitter (universal for all three types of weapons) or an “init” (used only for a saber),
– electrically conductive T-shirt (for foil and saber) or cuff (for epee).
For epee, in fencing with the use of “light masks”, the mask control unit is connected to the sensor with an additional separate wire.
For each type of weapon – epee, foil, sabre – their sensors are produced of the same appearance and dimensions, but differing in internal “gubbins”.
Having connected a t-shirt (or cuff) and a radio transmitter to his sensor, the athlete is fully ready to fencing on the StM wireless system.
CUNDUCTIVE T-SHIRT (FOR FOIL AND SABRE)
It is a regular T-shirt with a special elastic conductive fabric sewn to it from the inside. Put it on before the bout directly on the body of the athlete for foil and sabre.
Designed to provide contact of the sensor with the athlete’s body. For the System to function correctly, it is necessary that during the course of the bout the maximum possible tight contact between the conductive fabric of the T-shirt and the athlete’s body would be ensured.
The T-shirt (its conductive part) is connected to the sensor with a crocodile wire, which is included in the sensor kit (foil or sabre).
Conductive t-shirts for wireless fencing are available in two types:
for saber – electrically conductive fabric is sewn only to the waist part of the T-shirt,
for the foil – electrically conductive fabric is sewn to the waist part, to the collar and to the sleeves of the T-shirt, while all the parts are also interconnected by strips of electrically conductive fabric.
Electrically conductive fabric used for the production of T-shirts has the highest degree of medical safety for human health and the corresponding international certificates.
A conductive foil T-shirt can also be used for saber fencing.
At the same time, the use of a saber conductive T-shirt for foil is unacceptable.
CONDUCTIVE CUFF (FOR EPEE)
It is a specially cut cuff of elastic conductive fabric, worn before the bout on the hand and forearm of the main hand of the athlete. It is fixed with a cloth loop on the middle finger of the main hand of the epee fencer.
Designed to ensure contact of the sensor with the body (hand and arm) of the athlete. For the System to function correctly, it is necessary that during the course of the bout the maximum possible tight contact between the conductive cuff and the athlete’s body (hand and arm) would be ensured.
The cuff is connected to the sensor by a crocodile clip of the wire, included in the set of epee sensor. To fix the wire on the outside of the cuff, a soft (passive) part of a standard Velcro is sewn.
Electrically conductive cuffs for wireless epee are available in two types:
standard and elongated, which is used if the athlete’s hand or forearm are bandaged or taped.
Electrically conductive fabric used for the manufacture of cuffs has the highest degree of medical safety for human health and the corresponding international certificates.
“LIGHTS MASK” SET
Includes three LED boards which are inserted into the mask (one frontal (smaller one) and two side ones) and a control unit with a cover.
The LED boards visually reflect the athlete’s touch (hit), as well as problems with fencing equipment, lighting up with the corresponding color (red, green, white or blue). They are quickly inserted and easily attached inside the mask and each wire connects to the mask control unit.
The mask control unit processes the electrical signals received from the sensor and transmits them to the LED boards. Just like a sensor, each unit has a built-in battery (5V), which allows it to work (when initially fully charged) in an intensive training mode for about 8-9 hours. That is, an athlete can spend four to five full-fledged training sessions without recharging the mask unit.
The protective case performs the functions of a protector against mechanical damage, fixing the control unit (to the hard back holder of the mask), as well as transmitting electrical signals (for epee and foil).
Mask control units and covers for them are available in two types:
for epee / foil – with protective cover with electrically conductive fabric,
for sabre – with a rubber tread inside the protective cover.
The control unit is easily mounted on the back of the hard back holder (“tongue”) of the mask with Velcro protective cover.
The presence of the athlete’s set “lights mask” is not compulsory for fencing on the StM wireless system. Fencers can conduct bouts on the wireless also without the use of “lights masks” (or, for example, one athlete can use such a mask, and the other not). The use of bright light masks during fencing bouts makes fencing more understandable and entertaining for the audience, and also increases objectivity in making decisions in contentious situations.
INIT (FOR SABRE)
It is a small box (of exactly the same size as the radio transmitter) with an informational LED display, with “red” and “green” connectors for connecting a saber sensor and with a karabiner for attaching to a jacket or an electric jacket for an athlete.
Designed to enable and diagnose the correct operation of the wireless sensor of sabre fencer.
It is used by athletes exclusively for wireless fencing with “lights masks” and without using a radio set for the piste. When connecting the corresponding side (red or green) to the sensor, the color of touch (hit) is automatically determined — red or green, respectively, on the LED boards in the masks of sabre fencers.
Having completed his mask with a wireless set and connected his t-shirt and init to the sensor, the fencer is fully ready for fencing on the StM wireless system. At the same time, the actual touches (shits) will be displayed in the corresponding color only on the masks of the athletes.
Different parts and elements in the wireless system StM are connected by the means of:
The wire connecting the radio transmitter (or Init) to the sensor is universal for all types of weapons. Available in two types – with ordinary or reinforced connectors. It is also used to connect a sensor or mask control unit to the charger.
A short wire with a crocodile clip for connecting an electrically conductive T-shirt to the sensor is universal for foil and saber.
A long wire with a crocodile clip and an active part of the Velcro to connect the conductive cuff to the sensor – only for the epee.
Cord with elastic twisted part and two clips – for fixing on the fencing jacket and for connecting the conductive fabric of the protective cover of the mask control unit to the sensor – only for epee and only for fencing using lights masks.
A short thin wire with two crocodile clips at the ends for connecting the conductive fabric of the protective cover of the mask control unit to the conductive “bib” of foil mask – only for foil and only for fencing using lights masks.
Designed for charging or training of built-in batteries of sensors and mask control units. Universal for all types of weapons.
Available in a metal impact-resistant case, equipped with three color LEDs and control buttons. The package also includes a universal power supply 110-240V (exactly the same as used for radio receivers and devices blocking touches in the metal piste).
At the same time, it can charge, discharge or train one or two wireless devices – sensors and / or mask control units in any combination.
The sensor and mask control unit are connected to the charger with a universal wire, which is also used in the StM wireless system to connect the radio transmitter (or init) to the sensor.
